The Subcarpathian region of south-eastern Poland is one of the most beautiful and attractive areas in the country. It is an ideal place for all those who love to spend their free time actively. The cultural and entertainment centre of the region is Rzeszów.
One of the major historical sites of Rzeszów is the unique underground passageway through the cellars of Rzeszów. Particular cellars and corridors were given names that correspond to their functions and as a consequence refer to the history of the city. While relaxing in one of the restaurants on the Old Town market square one can admire the impressive building of the city hall. On the square there is also a monument to Tadeusz Kościuszko, erected in 1980 to replace a previous one destroyed in 1940 by the Germans. At the centre of the square there is a well that once supplied the inhabitants of the city with water for several centuries. Some time in the middle of the 19th century it was filled in and lay hidden until 2001, when it was rediscovered and reconstructed. The Bedtime Show Museum is an undeniable attraction of Rzeszów, the only one of its kind in Poland. You can find: original dolls from puppet shows, board games, computer games, jigsaw puzzles, books, comic books, magazines, theatre programmes, and cinema and theatre posters. Professor Szafer's nature path, running along Wisłok, is the prime tourist and recreational area of the city, and runs near the "Fox Mountain" reserve. The bicycle path is also very popular, especially during the summer months.
To the north of the city you can find a series of ponds and lakes, where you will also find a number of holiday centres, including Wilcza Wola, and Ożanna. Skiing is available in season near Rzeszów, with slopes having lifts in Babica, Matysówka, Dylągówka, Handzlówka and Niechobrz, all helping to stimulate the development of winter sports. Other sites worth seeing in the region include castles and palaces (Łańcut, Krasiczyn, Baranów Sandomierski), as well as numerous indoor museums and open-air ethnographic museums (Folklore museum in Kolbuszowa, Museum of Paraffin lamps in Krosno, Museum of Folk Construction in Sanok). Within the province is one of the 23 Polish National Parks, namely the Bieszczady National Park. Lake Solina is the largest artificial water reservoir in Poland, located in the centre of the Bieszczady, and nicknamed the "Bieszczady Sea." Numerous holiday centres have been built there, accompanied by the development of the agrotourist infrastructure.
